How to Implement Footnotes in Your Template

With Document Generation for Mendix, you can add footnotes to your documents. Here's how to set up your template for footnotes:

1. Insert a Footnote:

  • Place the cursor at the desired location for the footnote in your Word template. This can be within a table containing multiple objects or within a container with a single object.
  • Click on 'References' in the Word menu bar and select 'Insert footnote'. A small number will appear at the cursor position, and a line with a corresponding number will appear in the footer of the page.

2. Add MergeFields and Text:

  • In the footer, after the corresponding number, place the desired merge fields and text.
  • If using multiple merge fields from different objects, include the appropriate '<TableStart>' and '<TableEnd>' merge fields in the footnotes.

3. Footnotes in Tables:

  • When using a footnote in a table with multiple rows, Word will automatically update the footnote reference according to the number of rows and adjust any subsequent references.

4. Save and Generate:

  • Save your template to your application.
  • When you generate your document, the footnotes will be correctly formatted and numbered based on the table rows. For example, if the second footnote is updated to the fifth, it reflects the table with products.
